Introduction

The movie begins with a city in chaos. After toppling the authoritarian regime in Insurgent, Chicago is in a state of unrest as Evelyn (Naomi Watts), Four’s mother, takes control and forms a new government. However, not everyone agrees with Evelyn’s leadership, and a civil war looms. As they journey beyond the wall, the group encounters a high-tech society run by the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, led by David (Jeff Daniels).

Themes and Characters

Allegiant delves deeper into the theme of identity, particularly genetic determinism, as it explores the idea that human worth is not tied to one’s genes. Tris, as the protagonist, embodies the struggle between accepting one’s past and shaping one’s future.

Four’s journey in the film reflects the challenges of defining oneself outside of inherited control systems. His resistance to authority mirrors his internal battle with the genetic labels imposed on him. Caleb, who betrayed Tris in the previous movie, seeks redemption in Allegiant, adding a layer of family tension that complicates the group dynamics. He represents the dangers of a scientific utopia that disregards individual rights for the sake of societal progress.
